Information

Here's some information about the league.

History

The league was started in 1991 by Barb Bunting and has been known previously as the Sunset Grill league. The league runs non-profit and all fees go toward playing volleyball and year end prizes. It is through the support and hard work of various individuals and companies that has made this league a success and continue to do so.

 

The season runs from October to April. This includes a year end play off tournament.

 

Sponsorship

 

We generally recruit sponsorship from local organizations in the form of prizes and gift certificates for the end of the season party and have in the past had beer sponsors provide some funding for T-shirts and prizes. We have had excellent support in the past from various organizations such as; Rucanor, White Spot, Baden, Rucanor and Dolphin Travel. Rules

We play standard indoor FIVB with the following exceptions.

  • Balls off any middle basketball apparatus constitutes a re-serve.
  • Maximum five consecutive serves by any player. Serving team must rotate.
  • Teams must supply your own volleyball
  • Spin for serve 1st and 3rd game
  • Best out of 3 games to 25 points, rally point scoring. Play all three games sinces games won will decide tie breakers for seeding. If there isn't a lot of time to play your last game, captains should decide on a cap.
  • There must always be 2 women on the court at all times and no less than five people. Captains can decide if game is in default or not BEFORE the match and play with less than the minimum numbers.
  • Call your own violations
  • When in doubt, re-serve
  • Any of the rules above can be changed if the captains agree BEFORE the match begins

Location

Play is at Jericho Community Centre on 4th Ave by the Marine drive turn off to the beaches. Captains should have keys to open and lock up after. Players should need to setup and put away nets.
